We were delighted to welcome Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward, to the hub this morning to see WEA learning in action and the impact of accessible adult education in communities.

After taking a tour of the building, the mayor visited our ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) learners in the classroom and took part in the activities. Afterwards, she chatted with learners and staff to further understand the connection between tailored learning in building stronger communities. She said, “What an inspiring morning with the WEA. Listening to learners and tutors share their journeys and aspirations highlights how powerful education can be.”

Skills and adult education are one of Claire Ward’s priorities, focusing on providing opportunities and tackling challenges the East Midlands faces. We were pleased to share first-hand the impact of place-based adult learning and how this provides learners with the skills and confidence to progress into further learning and work.
