Christmas came early last week when a team of WEA colleagues spent the day collaborating with a partner in need to support deprived families in the local community.

Staff members from across the North East region attended The Cornforth Partnership in Ferryhill to help wrap Christmas presents for families and individuals. Donated by Amazon and local businesses, the gifts were a mixture of items suitable for adults and children of all ages.

The Cornforth Partnership is a local charity that works in collaboration with the WEA and provides support for local families and individuals living through challenging circumstances.

Jenny Blackwell, a WEA tutor team leader who pitched in with the wrapping said, “It was a lovely morning. The staff at the venue were so happy to see us arrive in our festive attire. They had so many gifts to wrap. It was great to catch up with colleagues and we had Christmas music playing. The staff at the venue were wonderful and provided us with unlimited drinks, chocolates and biscuits!”

With a further delivery of gifts arriving next week, it seems their gift-wrapping expertise may be required again.

WEA CEO Simon Parkinson said “The Christmas season is all about giving and it’s wonderful to see collaborations like this happening.

Our mission is all about supporting those hard to reach in the community and we are grateful that we are able to support local families and individuals who may be facing challenges at this time of the year.”

Thank you to all our WEA colleagues for taking part and a special thanks to The Cornforth Partnership for reaching out for our support in this initiative.
