Course overview
Course description
Further develop your music analysis skills in a supportive online group!
This intermediate level course follows on from a beginners course which took place in the Autumn term. However, students who already have some basic knowledge of Western music theory may be able to join the group.
Over the course, we will listen to a range of different music, from songs to instrumental pieces, and explore and apply music theory to interpret the musical features that we can hear and identify their effects on a listener.
This course allows some scope for students to give personal interpretations and ideas about the music, as well as applying the theory.
Students will also have the chance to develop their aural skills and creatively apply some theory through practical exercises, using both their voice and a digital keyboard app. A physical piano or keyboard may also be used to complete the exercises, though it is not necessary to have one to take part in this course.
Students must be comfortable with contributing to group discussions at regular points throughout the course, as well as completing quizzes on Canvas to test their knowledge.
