Course overview
Course description
During the session we will focus on the identification of Expressionism as a movement and why
and where it occurred . We will have the opportunity to explore the development of Expressionism and art movements and artists work proceeding the movement and how these influenced artists at that time . We will discover who were the fathers of Expressionism . We explore this wonderful art movement from the year 1912 and the many expressionist works created by artists during that time.
In particular we explore the work of , Edvard Munch , Henri Matisse , Vincent van Gough, Wassily Kandinsky and others . Picasso will also feature in this session as many of his works are expressionist inspired . We explore their subject matter ,their use of colour as well as their techniques. In addition we will have the opportunity to discover how life events inspired these artists to produce their work and this will lead us on a pathway to discover how they were inspired and how this can be linked to the work of contemporary artists work today
During the session we will compare realism and non expressionistic works to the works of these artists and discuss the differences . We will explore the links expressionism has to other art movements both prior and post movement .
