The session is delivered in real time, so you can sow seeds along with me asking questions as we go. A list of suggested resources will be on Canvas before the course begins so you can go shopping. We will explore the limitations of windowsill growing, and the advantages, particularly in relation to cost. We shall see which windowsill crops are economically worth growing, and which aren't! This course is an introduction to ways of viewing paintings made in Europe in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. The course that uses a selected number of paintings to provide a basis for the beginnings of an appreciation and understanding of some of the seminal ideas in aesthetics and philosophy of the period. The selection will encourage a focus on the paintings with specific themes and attentions; from the early use of artificial perspective and proportions to involvement in a world that represents the complexity of thought with feelings The course will include a study of selected works by Giotto and Masaccio, Jan van Eyck. and Rogier van der Weyden, Piero della Francesca and Sandro Botticelli, Andrea Mantegna and Giovanni Bellini.

Art Practical: Art and Upcycling

During this course you will be invited to consider how we handle potential landfill materials and waste, depending on how they can be used. You will learn how to transform an old product into something which has a greater value than the original, by re-working and decorating throw away objects transforming them into new and usable plant pots and/or garden decorations. At the end of the course, your new upcycled products will be placed outside, at the back of the Hub, to also uplift the environment and replenish the space for the enjoyment and benefit of all.
