You will be able to recycle unwanted paper into new paper to use in a book. You will learn how pages can be stitched together to create a book. You will understand how different types of books can be made from the simplest, using one piece of paper, to a covered hardback book. You will also learn how fabric can be used to make a book and what a memory book is and how to make one.

Enhance your mosaic making skills to a higher level. You will be learning from the ancients! Analysing and recreating elements of traditional masterpieces will help you understand the principles of cutting and laying used centuries ago. You will find that these techniques will be beneficial in your mosaic practice today. In addition, you will be encouraged to research contemporary styles of Andamento using less traditional materials and use your knowledge to create a unique design.

This course will teach you plenty of skills on how to mend your clothes beautifully and originally. We will look at the historical art of Sashiko patterns and the Boro mending technique that was used in Japan in the Edo period and also plenty of other Visible mending techniques. There will be plenty of beautiful patterns to choose from and to learn about and to sew yourselves. A grasp of basic hand sewing is needed. We will expand our knowledge on the resources needed throughout the course and learn about the history of this technique. Later on we will also look at other various visible mending techniques and how and why these are used.

Come and join a new course aimed at beginner sewers. No previous experience of the sewing machine is necessary. We will start with getting used to the machine and making a simple pin cushion. This will also make us think about what fabric we can recycle and use up all the little scraps of fabric you may have from previous projects. Using recycled materials not only helps in reducing waste but also sparks creativity by encouraging you to think outside the box.
