Course description

Maths for Work Readiness is a 24-hour Entry 3 course designed to develop the practical numeracy skills required for employment and vocational progression. Many learners at Entry 3 level need support in applying maths confidently in workplace contexts such as understanding wages, calculating hours worked, measuring quantities, managing stock, or interpreting basic data.

Delivered across 12 two-hour sessions, the course covers core areas including whole number operations, money calculations, time and timetables, measurement, simple fractions and percentages, and reading charts or tables. Learning is contextualised through realistic workplace scenarios such as shift planning, budgeting, checking invoices, comparing costs, and understanding deductions from pay.

Sessions are interactive and structured, providing clear explanations, guided practice and opportunities to apply skills in meaningful contexts. Tutors create a supportive, mistake-friendly environment that encourages participation and discussion.

By the end of the course, learners will demonstrate improved confidence in using maths in work-related situations and will be better prepared to progress to Functional Skills Maths, vocational training, or employment opportunities.
