Workplace Confidence in Maths is a practical Level 2 course designed to develop the mathematical skills needed for employment and real-life workplace situations. The course focuses on applying maths in meaningful contexts, including working with fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio and proportion. You will use formulae to calculate area, perimeter and volume, convert between units of measure, and interpret information from workplace documents such as payslips, invoices, tables, charts and timetables. Sessions are based on realistic workplace scenarios such as budgeting, measuring materials, analysing information and comparing costs. The course supports you to solve multi-step problems, choose appropriate methods, check your work, and make mathematically justified conclusions, building confidence and independence in using maths for work and further learning.

Course description

Workplace Confidence in Maths is a 24-hour course designed to develop practical mathematical skills required for employment, training and everyday workplace tasks. The course supports you to apply maths confidently and accurately across a range of real-life contexts.

You will develop skills in working with fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio and proportion, and apply these to solve multi-step problems such as calculating costs, scaling quantities, budgeting and comparing values. The course also covers the use of formulae to calculate area, perimeter and volume, as well as converting between metric and imperial units in practical situations.

You will interpret and analyse information from workplace documents and data sources, including payslips, invoices, tables, charts and timetables. You will use this information to make comparisons and draw mathematically justified conclusions based on numerical evidence.

Emphasis is placed on selecting appropriate methods, showing clear working, and checking answers to ensure accuracy. Sessions are structured and supportive, with opportunities for guided practice, independent problem-solving and reflection.

By the end of the course, you will demonstrate greater confidence and independence in applying maths skills in workplace settings and will be better prepared for progression into further learning or employment.
