Course overview

Jackson Pollock was born in 1912 in the United States in Wyoming, his wife who was also a renowned artist was born in 1908 in Brooklin New York . Discover their connection artistically explore their relationship and possible reasons for the differences and similarities in their works. The session will be delivered by power point presentation and lecture , handouts will be given where appropriate. The session is tailored to allow learners the opportunity to consolidate their learning as the course is delivered by discussion of their learning outcomes and opinions in a friendly and engaging environment and there will be fun group activities during the course to check on understanding and learning.

Course description

Delve into the work of Jackson Pollock affectionately known as 'Jack the Dripper' and his links with Abstract Expressionism whilst identifying the elements of Abstract Expressionism through his work. We look at the life and background of Jackson Pollock, his artistic influences and how his art became an outlet for him emotionally . We will also discover how he applied his paint in detail and why as well as the materials , implements and methods he used and why .

The session will also explore the relationship between Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner; how they met and events during their early relationship and how they formed a mutual bond with their shared artistic interests and beliefs. We will look at the early work and life of Lee Krasner and compare this to the work of Jackson Pollock and visa versa. We explore how they may have influenced each other .The session moves on to their married life and the differences of a. Their working environments and b. the size and scale of their work as well as content , methods and popularity .

We end the session by exploring Lee Krasner's Art after the death of Jackson Pollock , how it changed her work and the differences it made to her work
