Course overview

Welcome to our ‘Reading for Fluency’, course. This course focuses on improving fluency in English reading for ESOL Entry 1 students. Over 21 hours, students will practice reading simple texts such as short stories, articles, and everyday materials. Emphasis will be on developing reading speed, pronunciation, and understanding. Activities include reading aloud, group discussions, and comprehension exercises. By the end of the course, students will have enhanced their reading fluency and confidence, making it easier to understand and enjoy English texts.

Course description

This course is specifically designed to help ESOL Entry 1 students enhance their fluency in English reading. Throughout the course, students will engage with various simple texts such as short stories, articles, and everyday materials like menus and signs. The focus will be on developing reading speed, accuracy, pronunciation, and comprehension. Interactive activities such as reading aloud, participating in group discussions, and completing comprehension exercises will provide opportunities for practice and improvement. Students will learn to recognise common vocabulary, understand basic sentence structures, and grasp the main ideas of texts. The course aims to build confidence in reading English and improve overall language skills. By the end of the course, students will have developed a smoother and more natural reading style, making it easier to understand and enjoy English texts. This course is ideal for ESOL Entry 1 students looking to strengthen their reading abilities and progress in their language learning journey.
