Polish your reading skills in English. This level 2 ESOL course teaches you advanced knowledge to help you read and understand a variety of texts in English. Improved reading skills can open doors to work and study options in the UK. This ESOL level 2 reading course builds on skills you learnt at level 1. Practise and perfect your reading skills in English while expanding your vocabulary. This is an English course for adults. It is aimed at speakers of other languages. ESOL courses are divided into three areas: reading, writing, and speaking & listening. If you’re helping others find ESOL courses in the UK, you’ve come to the right place. This course is funded by the West Midlands Combined Authority.

Course description

What we’ll cover

  • Recognise a broad range of prefixes, suffixes, and root words in common vocabulary

  • Learn critical reading skills to help you evaluate and compare information from different sources

  • Understand the structure of written arguments and identify the main points of view.

  • Recognise and understand metaphors, similes, clichés and idioms in English.

  • Explore texts that can have multiple purposes depending on the reader’s point of view.

This ESOL level 2 course focuses on how to improve reading skills for adults.

You need previous knowledge to take this course, that’s why you’ll need to do a skills check to enrol. Don’t worry, this isn’t an exam. It’s for us to make sure you get on the right course for your level.

When you complete this module, you can continue with other ESOL skills for life level 2 courses. This is the highest level ESOL qualification we offer. There are also writing and speaking and listening courses.

There are “Get Ready” courses between each module to prepare you for the next course.

What to expect

This ESOL reading course takes around 110 hours to complete.

Please note that you’ll need an internet connection to study online ESOL courses. This is so you can access our digital learning platform, Canvas.

We don't want anything to stand in your way when it comes to bringing Adult learning within reach so if you need anything to support you to achieve your goals then speak to one of our education experts during your enrolment journey. Most of our courses are government funded but if you don't qualify or need alternative financial help to access them then let us know.
