Course overview
Course description
This course has been designed to introduce the historical technique of Victorian Style Embroidered Patchwork, also known as ‘Crazy Quilts’ and ‘Fancy Work.’
The course is suitable for improvers who have a basic knowledge of Hand Embroidery and would like to add to their practise and apply stitch techniques in a new and creative way.
The sessions will begin with the introduction of ‘Crazy Quilting’ and how the style originated before moving onto the project creation. The practical sessions will be in two parts, beginning with piecing together small and medium scrap sized pieces of fabric on a base background, made to the size of an A5 notebook. The second part of the course will concentrate on learning to combine stitches and apply them to the fabric background that was put together in the first part of the course.
This online course has the benefits of learning from home but also sharing your work with other learners, discussion, and tutor feedback. You will be able to use the skills you have learned to
move onto other textile and sewing based courses.
Materials required for the course are a base fabric such as felt or batting, plain fabric for lining, A5 notebook, fabric scraps, sewing thread, embroidery thread in assorted colours, needles, fabric scissors, thread cutting scissors.
