WEA courses

This course is designed to help prepare foreign learners for their Life in the UK test. The course is a first step in teaching learners about what to be expected on the test and what they need to revise for when they plan to take the test later on. The course has a minimum ESOL requirement to join the course as learners need to be of a high intermediate level in order to be able to understand and join in the course fully. The course will introduce you to all aspects of the UK in order to try and pass the UK Citizenship test. You will learn and discuss different laws, UK history, culture and social aspects of what is expected of typical UK citizens in everyday life. Our course is friendly and supportive and run by a fully qualified tutor. Any learners who attended the introduction course can continue on the course and any new learners can enrol also.

Are you bilingual? Ever thought about using your language skills to help out in the community? Did you know you can get many jobs with languages? If you speak English and another language fluently, you could make a great community interpreter. This community interpreter course gives you an introduction to the language and interpreting skills needed for this type of work. It can teach you foundational concepts to test your community interpreting skills informally with family or friends. This course can prepare you to help members of your family or community to overcome language barriers in their everyday lives. It can also help you decide if you’re interested in pursuing community interpreting jobs.

This is a Family ESOL class which will run for local parents to attend with their pre-school aged children. The course will be fun at a safe and friendly venue, Everton Children & Family Centre in Liverpool. Classes will be held by a qualified ESOL tutor and will be run unaccredited. The classes will be held every Monday from 9.30am - 12pm. There is a creche on site which is available for the pre-school children so that parents can attend the classes.

This Mosaic course is designed to introduce you to new craft skills and help you develop a new craft, whilst designing different images and relaxing, enjoying, being creative with others. Giving you also a chance to make your own plaque, mosaic piece for the table or as a wall hanging. Design and develop your own piece using a verity of broken tiles of different colourful ceramic tiles and upcycling old crockery as well as a number of different other items, such as beads and pebbles. Making your own fun decorative mosaic piece, either for your own home or as a present for someone special, lots of brightly coloured broken ceramic tiles and crockery will be used. Come and join other like-minded people and create a masterpiece!

The aim of the course is bring together your crafting skills and learn how to best showcase your creations. You will learn new skills and be part of a crafting learning community. (Note: this course is only for learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities in Minehead) Join the class in this friendly and relaxed environment where you will develop and improve skills and meet like-minded people.

Painting Summer flowers from carefully observed drawings in watercolour. The abundance and choice of flowering plants at this time of year will allow us to explore the variety and intensity of shape, shine, depth of shade and colour as well as understanding the complexity of Nature at its blowsiest.. This is a course for those who want to fulfil their quest to learn about the Botanical world in all its riches. A course of meditative qualities with much observation and analysis of what we understand about plants and a great way to learn about the application of watercolour.

If you have contact with deaf people in your day-to-day life, you may want to take a British Sign Language course. Knowing how to sign can make your communication more inclusive for everyone you interact with. This BSL course is suitable for you if you need to communicate with deaf people in a voluntary or community role, or simply through social interactions. This course is aimed at complete beginners. You will start from scratch to learn foundational BSL skills.

This is English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) course which will be held at The Dolphin Women's Centre in Washwood Heath, Birmingham, where the course will be taught face to face. This course will help improve your confidence to start speaking and listening, reading and writing in English ready for working in the UK. The course aims to aid you to start your journey to learning English and help to build your confidence when using the language in your day to day lives and out in the community, as well as helping you to work towards looking for a job here in the UK. This is a pre-entry course which will have progression opportunities at the end for higher level non accredited courses. This course is funded by the West Midlands Combined Authority
