WEA courses

This is a pre-employment programme delivered online that is designed to support you into work within Adult Social Care. The programme will help you to prepare for work in a care setting. The programme consists of up to three elements: GMCA Care Certificate (where you will cover the theory elements of the Care Certificate), L1 Stress Awareness and L1 Mental Health Awareness (additional accredited courses you can join if suitable). Once you have completed the course with WEA, GM Careers will place you for a working interview in a social care setting. This is designed like a working interview, to give you the opportunity to try out the working environment.

This is a pre-employment programme delivered online that is designed to support you into work within Adult Social Care. The programme will help you to prepare for work in a care setting by covering key elements of the adult social care pathway, including digital skills, and the opportunity to take a Level 1 course in mental health awareness. You will also gain skills in writing CVs and application forms for social care jobs.  Basically,  this programme is made up of three parts - a value-based interview and training with us at the WEA. If you complete the training successfully you are guaranteed an interview with a social care employer.  This is a working interview, to give you the opportunity experience working in a caring environment. This is a closed course for referrals for the DWP only.

Course Outline Come and join our enthusiastic tutor and a group of likeminded crafters as we immerse ourselves in the rewarding world of festive card making. If you’ve made Christmas cards previously you will know that it is never too early to start! Craft in general is known to have a positive effect on the mental health of those that do it, and card-making is fun, productive and very rewarding: you create lovely, personalised cards to delight the special people in your life. We will cover all aspects of card making from cutting the bases to adding the final elements of bling. We will try various fun folds, different techniques and a range of materials to create our stunning cards. This course is suitable for those with some experience of card making and a well-stocked craft room. Come and join us and build on your existing craft skills and add some new ones to your crafting library!

Whether you work in an education or support environment, or have autistic family or friends, this autism course can help you improve the support you give to autistic people. This level 2 autism course is useful for any job role where an understanding of autistic people’s needs is necessary. Autism level 2 courses build on your existing understanding. You will study definitions and nuances of autism. Understand the spectrum of diagnoses of autism. Learn how to communicate effectively with autistic people and how to support positive behaviour.

The purpose of this course is to support your individual health and wellbeing and to help you gain confidence. You will be given an opportunity to learn new skills and techniques from a range of different types of art and craft. For example, painting stones, glass, wood, and dream catchers. "Introduction to Drama" is a foundational course tailored for learners with learning difficulties at Journey Enterprises, Kenton. This engaging course uses drama as a tool to enhance confidence, mental well-being, and physical health. Through creative exercises, group activities, and guided performances, participants will build essential skills in communication, expression, and teamwork. The course is designed to create a supportive environment where learners can explore their creativity, develop new friendships, and experience the joy of performance. Successful completion of this course will prepare learners for more advanced drama training with WEA, culminating in a final performance for family and friends to celebrate learning.
