We will learn how to draw chosen animal portraits (students can get to draw their own pets or those of friends) in pencil, charcoal with white pastel for highlights, pen and coloured pencils and pastels. Advice will be given on materials, but please have a pencil, eraser and cartridge paper ready for the first session. Artists studied will be Durer, Rembrandt, Landseer, David Shepherd and Lucian Freud up to living masters and countless contemporary examples. This is a foundation pre-entry level course which supports low level pre-entry ESOL learners who are not yet equipped with the basic English needed to start a pre-entry course. The course is part 1 of a 2-part course which will build the learners confidence in starting to learn the basics of English such as forming and writing the alphabet, the phonetic sounds required for basic reading and starting to use basic vocabulary. The course will enable learners to build their confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing and learning the basic study stills they need to be in the classroom as an adult.

The course will outline the very basics of what you need to know in order to set up, and start running, a successful arts and crafts business whether creating and selling unique artwork, unique home décor, or jewellery. The course covers how to identify and define your niche within the arts and crafts sector; the basics of pricing products to ensure profitability; key steps to setting up an online shop or selling at local markets; simple marketing techniques to attract customers, including using social media. This course is perfect for beginners and requires no prior business knowledge. By the end of the session, you will have a clear understanding of the first steps needed to launch their arts and crafts venture and make your creative passions profitable.

In this course you will develop your writing skills, taking part in a range of tasks and activities in the classroom. We will practise writing simple sentences in present tenses, spelling key words and using punctuation marks effectively. We will also practise filling out forms and writing short texts such as messages.

The purpose of this course is to promote your confidence and independence through cooking. This course is about learning what is meant by seasonal summer foods and dishes. The course will explore a range of savoury and sweet foods and dishes associated with the summer months. You will look at why these foods and dishes are seen as summer foods. For example, you will look at vegetables and fruit grown and harvested in the summer and why the fruit and vegetables work so well to be eaten at this time of year. There will be weekly opportunities to prepare summer dishes.
