This is a fun and interactive course, ideal to follow on from the Beginners BSL. The intention of this course is to develop skills in BSL for community engagement, further learning and possibly employment in a school/work setting. The course will run for 14 guided learning hours and will be taught at St Mary’s Community Centre, Pontefract with the facilitation of Canvas as a virtual learning platform. Learners will be fully supported in achieving the learning outcomes for the course and the intention is that the course will help them to further develop their confidence in order for them to engage in signed conversations with their peers.

With the advent of the Industrial Revolution, we entered the age of the Anthropocene, where humans become the single most influential species on the planet. Today, discussions on environmental issues such as climate change and biodiversity have permeated practically all aspects of our lives, yet the field of art history remains less affected. Activities include reading aloud, group discussions, and fun exercises. You will also learn ways to quickly find information in texts. By the end of the course, you will feel more confident reading English and enjoy it more.

Welcome to the Level 1 Dressmaking course! This course is designed for beginners and improvers and will follow on from our Dressmaking for Improvers course. We will cover the basics of dressmaking. You will learn how to use a sewing machine, take measurements, and follow simple patterns. You will also learn from each other about little tricks you can use in sewing. The course includes practical projects where you will create your own garments. By the end of the course, you will be able to sew basic dresses and make simple alterations.
