Course description

Elements you will learn about include:

Fiddler on the Roof and Jewish traditions from Eastern Europe

Gypsy and the death of Vaudeville

Singin' in the Rain's" satirical look at the end of the silent era;

How Guys and Dolls and Chicago reflect the criminality of the Prohibition era;

Miss Saigon and the fallout from American involvement in Vietnam, and how the musical compares with the opera on which it was based, Madam Butterfly;

Cole Porter, his life and his musicals.
