For writers with a collection of stories or well into a memoir or novel to bring to the course for doctoring! This surgery helps you see the bigger picture, patch up those plot holes and feel re-energised about the body of work you have! There’s nothing more frustrating than writing a lot and then not knowing how it coheres or where it’s heading – and no, it’s not the bottom drawer! A mix of sharing, reflective questions to help you see the piece anew and craft notes. The tutor shares mentor texts to inspire you with ways to resuscitate the text: from chronological, novella-in-flash, linked stories and more to stimulate your best thinking and writing.

Course description

You loved the writing but now it’s time for shaping. Believe it or not - this is an enjoyable part of the creative process so dedicate time to it by joining this course. It will stimulate fresh thinking by showing you mentor texts from novels, novellas-in-flash, non-chronological works, dual narratives and linked short stories. It will give you the time to talk through your challenges in a supportive group, get you writing and re-energising. The tutor will provide craft notes about common pitfalls in early drafts at the macro level. You’ll leave with insights and have experimented boldly with new ways to organise your work. Most of all, you’ll feel energised from saying yes to working on your darlings and be bursting with satisfaction at new ways forward.
