This course is intended for those whose first language is not English. It is basic (entry level E1) course to support learners to improve listening and speaking skills and gain confidence to be more social and independent in their daily lives. The sessions will be delivered face- to-face in class room settings allowing learners to participate actively in their learning. The lesson must be differentiated and inclusive to meet the learners personal and individual needs and preferences. In additions to develop confidence in speaking and listening skills, the course will focus specifically on pronunciation, intonation, vocabulary and spellings, conversational skills as well as grammatical accuracy through interactive learning strategies such as role plays, conversation, discussion, tutor-led activities, and freer practice or productive tasks. The course will also help learners to improve their employability skills or open up options for further study by developing study skills. Moreover, the course will also contribute to the learners overall health and well being. By the end of the course the learners will be able to achieve the following outcomes; 1. Learners will engage in conversations relevant to various aspects of everyday life. The course aims to empower learners from diverse backgrounds, including those facing socio-economic challenges. Through targeted language instruction and confidence-building exercises, learners will develop essential linguistic abilities vital for active participation in their communities. Confidence in English is tailored for learners working towards accredited ESOL. This course is funded by West Yorkshire Combined Authority.

This is a foundation pre-entry level course which supports low level pre-entry ESOL learners who are not yet equipped with the basic English needed to start a pre-entry course. The course is part 1 of a 2-part course which will build the learners confidence in starting to learn the basics of English such as forming and writing the alphabet, the phonetic sounds required for basic reading and starting to use basic vocabulary. The course will enable learners to build their confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing and learning the basic study stills they need to be in the classroom as an adult.
