Course description
This course introduces learners to the art of Asian garment making, blending traditional techniques with contemporary design. Learners will explore styles from across South and East Asia depending on the group’s interest and cultural background. Learn basic pattern cutting and sewing techniques for specific garments. The course will focus on basic sewing, pattern cutting, and decorative techniques while encouraging personal expression and cultural appreciation. Practice embellishment methods like embroidery, piping, and decorative seams. Develop confidence in working with fine fabrics such as cotton, silk, or chiffon. It is ideal for those with basic sewing experience who want to expand their skills and explore the fashion heritage of Asian communities. Create at least one complete or partially completed traditional garment. Promote sustainable and slow fashion through handmade clothing.
