"Introduction to Drama" is a foundational course tailored for learners with learning difficulties at Journey Enterprises, Kenton. This engaging course uses drama as a tool to enhance confidence, mental well-being, and physical health. Through creative exercises, group activities, and guided performances, participants will build essential skills in communication, expression, and teamwork. The course is designed to create a supportive environment where learners can explore their creativity, develop new friendships, and experience the joy of performance. Successful completion of this course will prepare learners for more advanced drama training with WEA, culminating in a final performance for family and friends to celebrate learning. This course is funded by North East Combined Authority.

Course description

"Introduction to Drama" is a specialised course created for learners with learning difficulties, offering a safe and supportive environment to explore the world of drama. We recognize the unique needs of our learners at Journey enterprises and have crafted this program to help them thrive both on and off the stage.

Throughout the course, learners will engage in a variety of drama-based activities designed to build confidence, enhance mental health, and promote physical well-being. Exercises in role-play, improvisation, and movement will allow learners to express themselves creatively while developing essential communication and social skills. Working together in small groups, they will learn the importance of teamwork, empathy, and trust, fostering a sense of belonging and mutual support.

In addition to the personal growth and enjoyment that drama offers, this course serves as a stepping stone to more advanced drama training. Upon completion, participants will have the opportunity to progress to a higher-level course, where they can apply their newfound skills in a final performance for family and friends. This not only provides a goal to work towards but also an opportunity to showcase their achievements in a celebration of their journey.
