Course overview

These sessions are suitable for learners with experience or without experience. Recourses will be suggested for learners to participate who have no practical art experience and full direction is given to enable all learners to participate. These details will be shared with learners before the start of the course. Learners will be able to participate just using pencil, paper and tracing paper. If they wish to be more experimental, they may wish to choose painting or collage materials The sessions are delivered online by power point presentation with lecture and discussion. There will be instructions visually and verbally which will instruct learners how to carry out their own experiments in abstracted art.

Course description

These exciting and interactive sessions will allow learners to identify the different methods that artists historically used for creating Abstracted Art. It enables the learner to experiment with their choice of some of these methods. The course lecture details the historical development of these methods and some of the main artists involved. It also details visually to the learner via the lecturers' own visual exemplars the processes involved. During the course learners will also discover why and how the movement of abstraction occurred, and the art movements and artists which led up to this exciting development in Art history which still inspires artists today and has left an indelible mark upon art history and fine art development. The sessions allow the learner to discover the works of Picasso and Braque’s Cubist works , and possibly produce their own cubist Drawing and to identify Picassos methods of Distortion and Abstraction , We look at Lee Krasner’s Collage and assemblage techniques ,and Matisse with his collage works in his later life , Georgia O’ Keefe is featured and her work on Maximization and Minimization is discussed . We also look at the work of the artists involved in the Vortist movement.

An important element of the sessions is to identify the differences between abstract Expressionism and abstraction.
