Course description
This course is designed to introduce SEND students to the fundamentals of stop-frame animation. Participants will learn to create their own characters, develop simple storylines, and produce a short stop-frame animation using their own devices. The sessions will be hands-on, supportive, and adapted to individual learning needs.
Week 1: Introduction to Stop-Frame Animation
What is stop-frame animation?
Examples of simple stop-frame animations
Understanding basic animation principles (frames, movement, and persistence of vision)
Overview of equipment and software (smartphones, tablets, free animation apps)
Week 2: Character Design and Creation
Brainstorming character ideas
Choosing materials: clay, paper, toys, or household objects
Hands-on activity: Creating characters using chosen materials
Basic movement tests with characters
Week 3: Creating a Simple Storyline
Introduction to storytelling basics (beginning, middle, and end)
Developing a short script or storyboard
Planning character movements and scene transitions
Week 4: Setting Up for Animation
Creating a basic background and scene setup
Understanding lighting and camera positioning
Introduction to stop-frame animation apps (e.g., Stop Motion Studio)
Practice session: Taking test shots
Week 5: Filming the Animation
Step-by-step guide to capturing frames
Using onion skinning to maintain consistency
Adding small movements for smooth animation
