Course overview

This course will help to develop and channel your writing ability, whether as a hobby or for publication. The emphasis is on individual development, with discussion of many aspects of writing. You will be invited to read your work and have feedback in a constructive and friendly setting. All forms are included; short stories, novels, plays, feature articles, poetry, autobiography and memoirs. We will have discussions on many aspects of writing and short exercises in class. All you need is an interest in developing and enjoying creative writing skills. For developers and beginners, who are welcome.

Course description

This course will help to develop and channel your writing ability, whether as a hobby or for publication. The emphasis is on individual development. The course content will be flexible and adapted to suit the needs of the group. All forms are included, notably short stories, novels, plays, feature articles, poetry, autobiography and memoirs. You will be invited to read your work and have feedback in a constructive and friendly setting. We will have discussions on many aspects, such as shaping short stories, writing poetry, creating characters and using dialogue and description to make your work alive. We will consider some excerpts from published writers to assess their skill. There will also be short writing projects in class. Suitable for beginners and improvers. All you need is an interest in developing and enjoying creative writing skills. Work in progress can be brought to the first meeting but is not essential.

Most of our courses are government funded but if you don't qualify or need alternative financial help to access them then let us know.
