Course overview

The ESOL Skills in Action course is an exciting additional course which engages learners for an addition session. The course is designed to give them the opportunity to build their confidence using their newly learned ESOL skills, by letting them put them into practice in a safe environment. It focuses on giving the learners the opportunity to use their speaking and listening skills to engage with the tutor and their classmates, celebrate their own achievements in completing their previous course and stretch themselves to engage in a class activity. Course description

The ESOL Skills in Action course offers an interactive and practical way of learners to use the skills they learned in their previous ESOL course and practise using them with their peers before embarking into the community. The course is offered as one session and will be for around 2 hours. Learners will gain confidence in using their speaking and listening skills as they will be comfortable to make mistakes in a familiar environment with peers and a tutor they know.

The course is designed for ESOL learners who have just completed either an unaccredited or accredited course with the WEA and is a unique approach to ensuring that the learners are confident in using their learned skills, whatever level of ESOL they have just participated in.

Tutors will engage their cohorts in whatever activities they believe to be most beneficial for their learners and at the correct level for them. These activities will give them the opportunity to use their speaking and listening skills in the safe classroom environment but in a more casual and informal manner, enhancing their confidence to hold conversations in social situations and giving them transferrable skills for being out in the community or in the workplace.
