Level 1: Covers basic skills and knowledge needed for this subject
Level 2: Building on basic knowledge or experience. Similar to Grade 4/ C at GCSE or O level in England or Standards in Scotland.

Course description
This Study Skills course is designed to support Entry 3 ESOL learners in preparing for the Entry 3 ESOL Reading Exam. The course aims to build key skills needed to succeed in the exam, focusing on improving reading comprehension, vocabulary, and exam strategies. Learners will be introduced to essential reading techniques such as skimming, scanning, and identifying main ideas, helping them navigate different types of texts with ease.
Through a combination of practical exercises, group discussions, and individual reading tasks, students will enhance their ability to understand and interpret texts in English. The course will also cover strategies for answering multiple-choice, short-answer, and true/false questions, giving learners the tools they need to approach the exam with confidence. Special attention will be paid to developing learners’ vocabulary and understanding the context of unfamiliar words and phrases.
Time management will be a key focus throughout the course, helping learners practice efficient reading and answering strategies to ensure they complete the exam within the given time frame. By the end of the course, learners will feel more confident in their reading abilities and better prepared to tackle the Entry 3 ESOL Reading Exam, with a clear understanding of what is expected and how to succeed.
