Course overview
Course description
The theme this term is ‘Learn from the Best’, which will give us a focus for exploring a range of arts materials and techniques. It is a traditional method to examine and copy famous and excellent artists to learn their techniques. We will be looking at a selection of artists who work in different materials - pastels, watercolour, oils and acrylics - learning from their styles and recreating our own original works in that style. Topics and imagery will be provided by the tutor, but students are encouraged to explore and find imagery and other resources they are interested in. There will be sessions planned for students to finish work and for students to suggest topics and images. There will also be sessions on preparing paper and canvases and choosing paints, brushes, palette knives and other tools. Each demo will provide materials for students to experiment with and see what they would like to continue using, so that students can try before purchasing their own. This is a friendly and supportive group, offering a space for experimentation. This activity includes materials that can stain and spoil clothing, students are encouraged to being an apron or overshirt.
