Course overview
This course will explore artefacts from across time and civilisations, all displaying a common factor - that they have a (what can usually be described as human) face.
This course is funded by the Education Skills and Funding Agency.
Course description
We will look at a range of artefacts, including portraits and sculpture, made from different materials from a variety of places and periods, and ask questions such as what / who was the artefact for and how was it made? During the sessions we will also consider the insight it can give us into the person depicted and if that extends to the wider society. Where possible we will discuss the 'life' that the actual artefact has had, and any associated research. The examples in this course will range from small images of faces, through to full body sculpture.
