Course overview
Course description
Encaustic art is a painting technique that produces highly luminous and transparent images that uses the application of heat, wax, and pigment. In order to create encaustic art, one must burn pigments mixed with melted medium (made of natural beeswax, damar resin or simply crayons) onto card to produce the most extraordinary results. There is a unique sculptural quality to encaustic art and you can add add resources such as twigs, flowers, herbs, paper and leave into your creation. There are many layers of paint that you can manipulate and build on. It creates an incredible ethereal, even spiritual feel and experience. Your tutor will encourage you to source different materials to literally embed into your work, making the outcome unique and unusual. Virtually impossible to mimic, this art form can be used as a simple tool to bring out your creative side or to delve deeper into the holistic approach to art and wellbeing. Whether you have discovered and worked with hot or cold wax before or are new to this skill, join this course to share and develop your own knowledge and skills with others. A full list of materials and equipment will be available on Canvas
