Course description

This course will support you on your journey from music listener to music maker!

With muted microphones, students will try out a range of different activities that will allow them to develop and explore their music making skills, as well as building their knowledge of practical music theory.

To take part in these activities, students can use either a piano/keyboard, a touchscreen app for digital devices, or an interactive website. Students who play other instruments may also have the option of incorporating them into some of the class activities.

There will be additional opportunities on the course to explore your potential in wider music making skills including singing, digital music making and performing!

Students will be supported and encouraged to share recordings of their music making with the group.

The course is suitable for complete beginners, as well those who are looking to review their existing knowledge and/or broaden their music making skills. Your tutor will undertake an initial assessment with you at the beginning of the course to identify your starting point.

This course leads onto a choice of intermediate courses in the Spring term, and advanced courses in the Summer term. Students with a strong grasp of both music theory and practical music making skills may prefer to skip this beginners course and join a higher level course in the Spring or Summer.
