What are life skills?

Simply put, they are skills that make everyday life easier. Life skills include cooking, budgeting, communicating with others, health, well-being and managing emotions. Sometimes this means learning new things, and sometimes it means building on things you already know.

Sometimes adulting can be hard. These courses can help make it feel just that bit easier, make you feel more independent and empower you to face the future ahead.

Ways to Wellbeing: Seated Yoga - gentle movement for mental health.

This short course aims to encourage you to get involved in Mental Health awareness week 2024. The theme to support mental wellbeing this year is 'Movement: moving more for our mental health'. Being active is essential for good mental health and wellbeing, yet so many of us struggle to get enough exercise. Seated Yoga is a type of movement that aims to make movement accessible to everyone - why not give it a try? You will be guided through exercises that help to ease stiffness in all of the joints, you will practice simple stretches and accessible seated poses that help to keep you strong and mobile. At the end of the session you will enjoy a guided deep relaxation.

This gentle, mat-based yoga session will focus on gentle and accessible movement to support your mental wellbeing. Yoga practice involves connecting movement with your breathing, this helps you to concentrate and empty the mind of unwanted clutter. The approach to movement will be person-centred, practices will be adapted to meet your individual needs and to move within your own comfortable range of movement.

Managing Stress

Do you find it difficult to wind down? When we’re stressed it’s hard to feel calm and relaxed. But you don’t have to live with constant stress. There are simple techniques you can learn to manage it. This stress awareness course is helpful for anyone who wants to learn to alleviate stress. Money management and budgeting for ESOL learners (Multiply)

This short course is designed for learners currently studying ESOL who want to learn more about the language and skills that will help you manage your money, make good shopping decisions, and understand budgeting. The course will look at the principles of managing money in everyday situations like comparing prices on the high street, working out the best deal for transport to get to work or learning, or the cost of cooking a meal. This course will take place at St Peter’s Church Parish Hall, Portland Road, Hove BN3 5GD. This course is supported by the Government-funded Multiply programme and is free to learners that are aged 19 or above, who live in a Brighton and Hove postcode, and who do not have GCSE maths at grades A*-C or 4 – 9.
