Skills profile
In accordance with the board skills profile, WEA is seeking applicants who may have one or more of the following skills:
- A good knowledge of our sector
- Finance and/or quality assurance (in education)
- Digital/IT transformation
Term of office, time commitment and format of meetings
The total time for trusteeship is estimated at 3 days per month (2 days of Board business + 1 day of Committee business). We provide a programme of induction and training and offer tailored support to those taking up a trustee role
Most of our meetings take place via Teams. A hybrid option is available for those who may be unable to travel for the occasional face-to-face meeting, typically held in London.
Prior to appointment, individuals wishing to serve as a Trustee must declare their business interests and confirm that they meet the statutory requirements for charity trusteeship. You can read more about this here. The role is unremunerated, although expenses incurred in carrying out Board and committee business will be reimbursed in accordance with WEA’s expenses policy.
All appointments to the board of trustees are guided by the WEA Nominations Committee.
If no interest is forthcoming from suitably eligible WEA members by 30 November the role will be advertised externally in accordance with the agreed recruitment practice.
