It was while Naomi was out shopping for fabric that she came across a poster promoting a WEA sewing course.

“Even though I had business aspirations, I was slacking on them. I wanted to build on my confidence which would then allow me to progress further.”

Along with a confidence-boost, she found comfort socialising with others, an experience which has been invaluable in preparing her for conversations with fabric suppliers and creating contacts.

Even though I had business aspirations, I was slacking on them.

Along with a confidence-boost, she found comfort socialising with others, an experience which has been invaluable in preparing her for conversations with fabric suppliers and creating contacts.

“Courses like this are important for people who are struggling to find their direction in life. The skills you come away with are so versatile and you can do a lot with them.”

Learning with the WEA has allowed Naomi to find her confidence, build her skillset and create connections within her local community.

With a passion for jewellery-making, Naomi enjoyed the hands-on aspect of the course which will come in handy with her career plans.

She now hopes to set up her own business, giving her a platform to create and sell her own creations.
