This advanced short course is for participants who have already reached a Level 2 ESOL standard. The course aims to help students and employees to hone their Reading, Writing, Speaking & Listening skills to increase their confidence and competence to take IELTS tests.

This short course will provide the opportunity to study two novels by female authors that are thoughly connected in the minds of many people despite being published 26 years apart by two very different authors. Throughout Northanger Abbey Jane Austen makes many references to Ann Radcliffe’s classic gothic novel The Mysteries of Udolpho. These two novels, then, are connected in the minds of many readers and this course will provide the opportunity of looking at these two novels side-by-side. We will begin with Radcliffe’s 1794 novel The Mysteries of Udolpho and then look at Austen’s much loved Northanger Abbey, published posthumously in 1817.

This is part 1 of Advanced pre-entry ESOL. This course will be held at Foleshill Women’s Training in Coventry. You will have ideally completed part 1 and part 2 of Intermediate Pre-entry ESOL. This course is suitable for anyone who has a good base level of English and is looking to develop further. This can be great if you are looking to get into work or just want to improve your confidence in English. Our expert tutors will help you improve your skills and work towards your personal goals. This course is funded by the WMCA and is run by the WEA.

Welcome to Term 3 of the Italian Course! This course enhances your Italian with practical topics to boost conversational skills. Learn to confidently order in restaurants, discuss weather conditions, talk about spare time activities, and describe people’s appearances and personalities. Interactive lessons include role-playing, listening exercises, and cultural insights for a comprehensive learning experience. By the end of the term, you’ll navigate restaurant menus, engage in weather conversations, describe hobbies, and portray individuals in Italian. This course will help you develop further watercolour techniques interrelated with drawing skills, and in connection with inspiring examples in art history. It will help you learn classical techniques in a subtle way, by relating them to examples by various masters of drawing and watercolour and contemporary artists. If you would like to have a fresh view of watercolour painting and drawing, and learn how to achieve expressivity by carefully combining techniques such as glazing, graded wash or cross-hatching, this course will offer you an overview and will inspire personal artworks of great subtlety and sensitivity It will also encourage you to create your own original artworks based on the techniques learned and it will bring a fresh perspective on known techniques and styles, if you have already practised them in your own paintings. Take your reading skills to the next level with these ESOL classes. Feel comfortable reading and understanding different types of texts in English. Improved reading skills can make life in the UK easier for you. This ESOL entry 3 reading course builds on skills you learnt at entry 2. You’ll continue to expand your vocabulary and reading skills. This is an English course for adults. It is aimed at speakers of other languages. ESOL courses are divided into three areas: reading, writing, and speaking and listening. The course will briefly introduce the principal ideas of a selection of philosophers and apply these to the discussion of the news headlines and the controversies that lie behind them. This course will encourage discussion and sharing of ideas about current affairs and will involve reflecting on how to make philosophy a part of this discussion. Reading material will be provided on Canvas and the tutor will introduce the key ideas of relevant articles. However, reading before class is not essential. The main activity is to share ideas on news stories.

Still life is a unique genre of photography, which depicts inanimate objects or subject matters devoid of people. On this course you will learn how to look closely and consider ways of making the ‘ordinary’ appear interesting and extraordinary! You will experiment with composition, lighting and set-up, whilst considering how objects, possessions and natural forms symbolise some kind of story. You will learn how to read and discuss images with others, reflecting on your own images, when considering visual communication.
