In this course, we will focus on an extraordinary artist, well-loved from today’s public: Vincent van Gogh. You will learn about his Dutch origins, his interests and friendships while in Paris, the dreams he nurtured in Arles, and, his last months in Auvers-sur-Oise. As we study the main phases in his life, we will study key examples of his paintings and drawings to better understand his artistic identity. What was the purpose of painting for him? Why did he paint with bright colours and thick brushstrokes? We will seek to understand van Gogh’s art not simply in light of his own mindset, but also in light of the wider cultural context he was part of.

This comprehensive sewing course is designed for beginners looking to develop essential sewing skills and knowledge. The curriculum covers everything from understanding the key components and stitches of a sewing machine to mastering beginner techniques like sewing in circles and straight lines. Students will learn how to work with various fabrics, create a tote bag, and use commercial patterns effectively. The course also explores the basics of hand-sewing, zipper installation, and topstitching. Additionally, students will gain practical insights into marketing their sewing projects, including using social media, creating adverts, and developing a one-page business plan using the Business Canvas Model. This course is funded by Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.

The Level 2 Certificate in Preparing for the Community Interpreting Role enables learners who are speakers of other languages to develop the language and skills necessary to go on and train as Community Interpreters at Level 3 and Level 4. This is the ideal qualification for anyone who wants to enter the interpreting profession and become a paid interpreter or volunteer in the UK.

Our experienced tutor will guide you through the basics of lipreading and show you how to practice your lipreading skills in everyday life. This entry 3 functional maths course is right for you if you want to enhance your maths skills to work or study. It can help you learn essential maths skills employers look for. Functional Skills qualifications are free if you don't already have a GCSE in English or Maths at grades 4-9 or A*-C. We'll check your level and any previous qualifications before you start. This ensures you are on the correct course.

In this course we will discuss and analyse the following authors and their works. These are: Look Back in Anger - John Osborne. The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie - Muriel Spark. The Vet's Daughter - Barbara Comyns. A Voice Through A Cloud - Denton Welch. A Kind of Loving - Stan Barstow. These texts are an eclectic blend of plays, novels and the autobiographical in the case of Denton Welch, an eccentric and now largely forgotten. There will be great scope for discussion and the voicing of opinions, and you will be encouraged to develop your own theories and interpretations in a supportive atmosphere.
