Welcome to our ‘Reading for Fluency’, course. This course focuses on improving fluency in English reading for ESOL Entry 1 students. Over 21 hours, students will practice reading simple texts such as short stories, articles, and everyday materials. Emphasis will be on developing reading speed, pronunciation, and understanding. Activities include reading aloud, group discussions, and comprehension exercises. By the end of the course, students will have enhanced their reading fluency and confidence, making it easier to understand and enjoy English texts.

With the help of musical extracts, we trace the course of the Renaissance and the individuals who shaped it - featuring Elgar, Delius, Vaughan Williams, Holst, Britten, Walton and Tippett. We also explore how conscious they were of heading a revolution, and address the elusive issue of what we really understand by Englishness in music.
