During this five week course we will explore a number of portraits of British Monarchs. We will discover the anonymous Wilton Diptych, Holbein’s portrayal of Henry VIII, the evolving portraits of Elizabeth I throughout her life; the paintings of Charles I by Anthony Van Dyck, and several portraits of the de-facto monarch Oliver Cromwell. The course will introduce the lives of the artists, the historical and socio-political contexts of the paintings, and discuss the changing perceptions of the monarchy as shown in this 250 year long history. What we’ll cover:- Recognise the letters of the alphabet in upper and lower case; use an understanding of letters and sounds to identify common English words in everyday situations; read signs, symbols and texts you will come across in the community; and understand how punctuation is used to help you read more easily.

This ESOL Reading course helps people who want to inprove their English. It will help you strengthen your ability to read letters, leaflets and other reading matter regulary seen in everyday life. What we will cover: - Using maps, diagrams and photographs to obtain information; identify and use common sources of information; find information from a range of different texts (such as letters, emails, leaflets, tables); and read words with common spelling patterns.
