Art Appreciation: Art Appreciation: Art in Churches
The Church has historically been a major patron of the arts, and all major artists have works in church buildings around Europe. From Saxon wall paintings and lavish medieval alter pieces, to contemporary installations in Cathedrals, this course looks at the variety of art commissioned by the Church, from the Sistine Chapel ceiling to Victorian church textiles. We discuss where good examples can be seen in this country, including stained glass and sculpture. The way in which art in Churches has reflected the major art history developments is at the core of this course.

History: My Virtual Museum; a collection of elite, local images
The story of my journey into collecting old postcards, vintage photographs,
and interesting artefacts/ephemera, and the motivation behind establishing a
virtual museum, with the generous assistance from others. Throughout,
numerous images depicting each stage of my collecting will be displayed,
categorised by subject matter. Predominantly featured will be vintage
photographs depicting scenes and people from northern Lincolnshire,
particularly Grimsby and Cleethorpes. Additionally, there will be recent
photographs showcasing intriguing collectibles mainly associated with this
region. Lastly, I will outline my future thoughts and plans for this venture.

This course aims to introduce students to the art of portraiture in a relaxed and supportive environment. You will learn how to draw the face, neck and features correctly and then move on to painting. The class is ideal for beginners who would like to learn new skills or improve old ones. Using a simplified, structured, and step-by-step approach, students will learn the skills and techniques necessary to be able to paint portraits. Creating portraits that have a convincing sense of shape, form and colour is difficult to do, and this course looks at various techniques used to do this. By learning to interpret the human head into its abstract elements (shape, tone & colour), you will gain confidence in how to paint portraits in a structured and methodical manner.

History: English canals- An Introduction
As built, canals linked towns and cities with the remote corners of the English countryside. Built largely to carry coal to fuel the Industrial Revelation, they are used today for pleasure purposes.
Canals offer the opportunity to improve health and wellbeing, whether walking along the towpath or travelling along in a barge.
Come and join this illustrated course where you as will discover how the canal system was built and its contribution to our industrial and social history, by tracing its expansion, slow decline and renaissance.
During this course you will discover that there are different types of canals, various methods used to raise and lower barges to different levels and review the role of James Brindley who was a canal pioneer.

History: How Renaissance Art Interpreted Christmas
This five week course will explore the art of the Renaissance and its depiction of the Nativity and Epiphany. We will explore a number of artists but our principal focus will be on works by Giotto, Fra Angelico, Botticelli, Breughal and Caravaggio.
