Our Moon, Magnificent Desolation
Hugh Alford, is a long serving member and current Vice-Chair & Outreach Group Lead of the Orpington Astronomical Society. Whilst a complete amateur, Hugh has the honour of being a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society. 'Our Moon ~ Magnificent Desolation!': ~ is a colourful, dynamic, and sometimes amusing, PP presentation with animations, videos and sound, with a classical music flourish. Taking an eclectic and general view, Hugh invites the audience to consider the Moon, its history and impact upon society whilst featuring on the Apollo 11 Moon landing; clarifying many of the urban myths surrounding this great achievement.

Creative Writing: Body and Earth
This friendly creative writing course will invite you to enter into relationship with your bodies and surroundings. The session will be held in a supportive way and will integrate some simple meditation (adaptable to all bodies), prompts for creative and reflective expression through writing, and even some environmental science! You will be guided to a holistic understanding of person and place. This course is ideal for people who like to write and to contemplate how to live more skilfully as individuals, as a community and in relationship with their surroundings. There will be time for sharing small parts of your writing towards the end of the workshop but no pressure, it’s about an unfolding individual/shared creative process and participants need to feel at ease to write freely.

Art Appreciation: Colour in Art: Pigments, Symbolism and Colour Theory
In this course, we will focus on a key component of art: colour. We will seek to understand what colours are made of, how they were chosen, and how they work altogether in a composition, and what they mean for the viewers. As we study examples from Ancient Egypt to contemporary art, this fascinating subject will take us beyond traditional art history. We will sometimes invoke chemistry, economy, and psychology as we study the colours of works of art.
