Luckily, there are communication techniques you can learn to be able to maintain healthy interactions. This course is appropriate for you if you have hearing impairments or if you’d like to communicate with a friend or family member with hearing loss. Lip reading for beginners gives you an introduction to some essential lip shapes. Explore deaf awareness issues to understand how hearing loss affects communication. Learn about speech patterns and cues to facilitate interactions.

This course is put on in partnership with Wolverhampton City Council and the DWP. It is suitable with learners who wish to improve their English to get ready to apply for a job, who are unemployed and looking for work and who also have English as a second language. Learners with English as a second language, who are looking for work and receiving benefits and aged 19 plus are eligible. If you are in receipt of work related benefits, speak to your work coach at the Job Centre and mention JCP Wolverhampton Hub. Subject to eligibility, travel expenses can be paid. To explore the basics of counselling and the profession and discuss how skills in counselling could support interactions in the workplace. We will examine a range of core counselling skills including 3 core conditions and analyse how these skills can be used in a helping relationship. Located in a relaxed and friendly environment, this course is ideal for those looking to start a career in counselling and a step towards further/higher education or employment.

The famous French film director François Truffaut once remarked that there was “a certain incompatibility between the terms ‘cinema’ and Britain.” This informal course will dispute that quote by charting the history of the British film industry between 1895 and 1970. Featuring films both familiar and forgotten, this course is for anyone who wants to find out about how cinema developed in this country and how it reflected developments in society.

This basic course will introduce learners to the world at work and the language needed to enter it. The course has been developed in partnership with Wolverhampton City Council which refers learners to this and other programmes hosted at the Old School, which is a community centre run by Blakenhall Action Community Forum. This course is particularly suitable for students are unemployed and have been referred by Job Centres to improve their spoken and written English and thereby get closer to getting a job.

This Advanced level course will build on skills gained in the Pre Entry and Intermediate courses that you may have studied previously, or you may be assessed by the tutor as ready for this course straight away. In this 10-week course we’ll focus on an different important and influential question each week. We cover philosophy, literature, science and history. We’ll read and discuss selected extracts which will be circulated beforehand. The course covers a sweep of over 2000 years, from the ancient Greeks to modern times.
