Join me and a supportive group of like minded crafters as we build on existing and develop new skills and techniques to enhance our journaling experience. This course is ideal for anyone who likes to make things and has simple paper-craft materials on hand such as glue, paper – plain copy paper is great for your junk journal though you’ll need watercolour or similar papers for the art journal. Paints, felt pens, colouring pencils along with some collage materials and images – magazines, old book pages etc. You will share your progress with your peer students in class discussions and your tutor will be working along with you all the way, demonstrating techniques, sharing advice and tips and breaking everything down step by step .

This is a General English class aimed at elementary (A1/A2) level learners. This course is for those whose first language is NOT English and in it we will practice all four major skills in each session to develop reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Although this is a low-level English course, learners should be able to recognise sounds of the English letters and read simple lines of text prior to joining so that they will not struggle. Lessons will be delivered face-to-face using a range of teacher led and freer interactive activities to build learners’ proficiency and confidence in the English language.

The role of the community interpreter is an integral part of our changing communities and increasingly important. The interpreter acts as a bridge between communities and enables people to access the services they need and approach situations which otherwise would not be possible. The Level 2 Certificate in Preparing for the Community Interpreting Role enables learners who are speakers of other languages to develop the language and skills necessary to go on and train as Community Interpreters at Level 3 and Level 4. This is the ideal qualification for anyone who wants to enter the interpreting profession and become a paid interpreter or volunteer in the UK.

This course focuses on bolstering confidence through practical language skills necessary for daily interactions. Participants will engage in conversations relevant to various aspects of everyday life. The course aims to empower learners from diverse backgrounds, including those facing socio-economic challenges. Through targeted language instruction and confidence-building exercises, learners will begin to develop essential linguistic abilities vital for active participation in their communities. This short course will cover a range of learning opportunities enabling students to further develop skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking through focus on various elements of grammar and vocabulary. Confidence in English is a taster course tailored for learners thinking about working towards accredited ESOL.

Want to take on a new challenge and learn a new language? Like to holiday in Spain or Spanish speaking countries or just want a new hobby, then this is the course for you. This can be used as a continuing course after the prior introduction course or feel free to join at this stage. A fun and accessible course exploring a selection of Road Movies. The road movie is now considered a staple genre of popular cinema, particularly Hollywood, but what are many of these films actually about? Often seeming low on plot and with endings which are often inconclusive and open to discussion. Why a road movie? What where do they come from in terms of cultural points of reference, are they really just an U.S thing? We have fun and develop our cinematic knowledge by exploring a selection of Road Movies from the U.S and beyond.

This course aims to introduce learners to the stories of some pioneering women from early cinema history who were hugely important to the development of the art, craft, and business of film, but who modern movie goers may not know. We’ll look at the unique challenges they faced as women in their times, their contributions – in some cases – deliberately overlooked, but also the immense possibilities of the emerging cinema industry.
