The course will introduce you to how a Gelli plate can be used with a variety of items to create prints on both paper and fabric. This course is designed for learners who would like to develop their own individual style and direction when exploring portrait skills. Starting with the anatomy of the head, you will be guided through the basic steps and techniques when studying a character. Using Photography, you will then go on to learn about directing and how to confidently capture a head and shoulder portrait. This could then be used to either draw from or manipulate, using mixed media, for example painting onto its surface or collaging.

This Mosaic course is designed to introduce you to new craft skills and help you develop a new craft, whilst designing different images and relaxing, enjoying, being creative with others.

This 5 week course delves into the works of five local artists featuring Arthur Lett-Haines, Jennifer Andrews, Anthony Atkinson, Charles Bartlett and Malcolm H. Carter. Each week explores key art concepts including, colour and composition through samples of their work. You will engage in group discussions, take notes and recall information. By the end of the course, you will be able to notice significant local artists describe their artistic methods, spot similarities and differences amongst local artists, deconstruct essential components of artworks and select a preferred piece based on personal opinion.

This course will explore the following texts: Heart of Darkness - Joseph Conrad; Short Stories by Kipling; The Siege of Krishnapur - JG Farrell; The Jewel in the Crown - Paul Scott, and The English Patient - Michael Ondaatje. The course will track the decline of Empire and the concomitant social and political uncertainty, the relationship between the colonial and the colonised Other, and develop themes relating to identity and the subjective nature of historical revision. There will be ample scope for discussion of at times difficult and controversial debates, and we will focus on the continuing relationship that exists between contemporary writers and later writers vis-a-vis issues of guilt and responsibility.

This is a pre-employment programme delivered online that is designed to support you into work within Adult Social Care. The programme will help you to prepare for work in a care setting. The programme consists of up to three elements: GMCA Care Certificate (where you will cover the theory elements of the Care Certificate), L1 Stress Awareness and L1 Mental Health Awareness (additional accredited courses you can join if suitable). Once you have completed the course with WEA, GM Careers will place you for a working interview in a social care setting. This is designed like a working interview, to give you the opportunity to try out the working environment.

This short course can help you bridge the gaps in your confidence and overcome the obstacles standing in your way to get back into learning. The objective of this course is to get you into a positive mindset to achieve your goals. You will practise a variety of confidence-building exercises to help that mindset shift come from within.
