WEA courses

This course is designed to introduce students to the art of sewing and the world of textiles, from foundational skills to garment construction. Through practical, hands-on learning, students will develop proficiency in sewing techniques, fabric selection, and pattern construction. By the end of the course, students will be able to design, create, and customise their own garments or textile projects, with a focus on craftsmanship, creativity, and sustainability.

A friendly and accessible exploration of five cinematic works made under the banner of Channel Four Films now known as Film 4. What are the founding principles? How do they differ from ‘rival’ BBC Films. Is what we expect from a Film 4 film now different from what may’ve been expected from an earlier Channel 4 Film? We have fun whilst gaining knowledge and understanding of Channel 4 Film and cinema in general. What are the running features? Promoting knowledge, understanding and confidence regarding film and cinema in general, whilst also highlighting specialist language and terminology, advancing literacy, communication skills and confidence in delivering informed feedback.

A fun and friendly class for adults with learning disabilities. A funky dance workout to get you moving; dance along to your favourite music and why not sing along too! Lots of different dances with pom poms, tambourines and ribbons too. Join in at your own pace and have lots of fun! The Reaching Out Programme classes are open to people living in the community that can have their needs met by the class. This is a class for people with a learning disability.

The course aims to encourage learners to attend art exhibitions and/or musical events with a greater background knowledge in order to enhance appreciation. If actual attendance is not possible, to undertake independent research and hence, enjoy a more active and cultural lifestyle. It will help you learn basic English to study, work, and live in the UK. This ESOL reading course helps people who are just starting to learn English. It will help you gain confidence reading short texts and common words in English. There are also writing and speaking & listening courses at this level. Migration always brings a story. Whether migration stems from joyful exploration and curiosity, or is the result of loss, coercion or danger, each narrative tells us something new. In this course, we will be considering the portrayal of migration, the many contexts which lead to authors writing about migration, and how other themes are bound in with this idea. In our discussions together, we will be considering a wide range of texts and genres from across the ages, and working to expand our understanding of such a fundamental experience.

This course will give you the opportunity to understand the benefits of indulging in a creative activity and how this can have a positive effect on your mental health and wellbeing. You will have the opportunity to learn the basic skills of a range of different crafts and share skills and knowledge with other crafters. Each session will allow you to try a different craft which may lead you to discover a craft which could become a new hobby for you to enjoy.
