We’ll read a wide-range of short stories, memoir and novel extracts from diverse genres and authors. Each week we’ll be assigned two texts for close reading before the class. In class, the tutor will facilitate discussion around the techniques used and set a short writing exercise to practice a technique.

This course is designed for you to develop your creative side and use your previous clay hand-building techniques to progress to an intermediate level, plus a chance explore the different decorative styles working with Clay. By the end of the course you should have lots of different pottery pieces and different pottery skills. You will be in a group with others and led by a talented Arts and Crafts tutor. Your work will be taken away and fired in a kiln by the tutor and it will be yours to keep!

During your course, you will learn core skills that boost your confidence, such as surfing the internet, adding bookmarks and searching efficiently. Create files and folders to organize your information. Importantly, you will gain essential knowledge about keeping yourself and your information safe online. Recognise and avoid fake websites, understand secure browsing practices, and protecting personal information. By mastering these skills, you will navigate the digital world efficiently, proficiently and securely, ensuring a safer and more productive online experience. This course will help to develop and channel your writing ability, whether as a hobby or for publication. The emphasis is on individual development, with discussion of many aspects of writing. You will be invited to read your work and have feedback in a constructive and friendly setting. All forms are included; short stories, novels, plays, feature articles, poetry, autobiography and memoirs. We will have discussions on many aspects of writing and short exercises in class. All you need is an interest in developing and enjoying creative writing skills. For developers and beginners, who are welcome.

This 10-week course delves into ten seminal classic texts that have profoundly shaped political thought and governance across the world. From ancient philosophical treatises starting with Plato’s Republic to modern declarations of rights and treaties, each document represents a milestone in the development of political ideas. We will explore the historical context, core arguments, and lasting impacts of these influential works. Delving into questions which are just as relevant today, such as ‘what is the role of the state?’ or ‘is democracy the ideal form of government?’ to gain a deeper understanding of these works contributions to political theory and practice.

Come and join us on this friendly and supportive course which will support you on your journey from music listener to music maker! Try out a range of different music making activities that will allow you to develop and explore your music making skills, as well as building your knowledge of practical music theory. The course includes activities to explore your potential in music making on a physical or virtual keyboard, as well as wider music making skills including singing, digital music making and performing. You will be supported and encouraged to share recordings of your music making with the group.

"Introduction to Drama" is a foundational course tailored for learners with learning difficulties at Journey Enterprises, Kenton. This engaging course uses drama as a tool to enhance confidence, mental well-being, and physical health. Through creative exercises, group activities, and guided performances, participants will build essential skills in communication, expression, and teamwork. The course is designed to create a supportive environment where learners can explore their creativity, develop new friendships, and experience the joy of performance. Successful completion of this course will prepare learners for more advanced drama training with WEA, culminating in a final performance for family and friends to celebrate learning.
