This course is for residents of Norfolk only- Please only apply for this course if you live in the County of Norfolk. Do you lack confidence with numbers? On this self-study course, you will use the WEA's fun, engaging, interactive multimedia resources to help grow your confidence with maths. You can learn at your own pace, at a time that suits you and take as long as you need to complete the course. From working out your household budget, to helping your kids with their school work, there is a module for you. From time to time, one of our friendly Numeracy Coaches will check in with you to provide any support that you need.

This course focuses on an understanding of counselling and developing practical skills. The importance of counselling for the wellbeing of individuals and society is being increasingly recognised. You will be introduced to the nature of counselling and learn and practice active listening skills such as reflecting, paraphrasing, summarising, and giving feedback. The course is aimed at anyone who may be considering either a career in counselling, or wanting to develop valuable helping and listening skills, as well as anyone interested in developing self-awareness.

This day school focuses on three short stories from the American literary tradition by Alice Walker, Ernest Hemingway, and Edith Wharton. The session includes tutor presentations and group discussions about each story. Resources will be available before the session for pre- and post-session reflection. During the day, we will analyse specific excerpts and broader cultural contexts, exploring how fiction connects to the real world. Join us for an engaging exploration of these iconic American authors and their contributions to literature.

This course is 30 hours of follow-on skills for the Beginner Sewing into Business course. On this course you will learn how to carry out essential alterations. You will learn, inserting zips into cushions and outdoor furnishings, adjusting waistbands with elastic for a custom fit, gain understanding of how to alter school uniforms, including sewing badges and hemming pants. You will also be guided in researching how to monetize your sewing skills, gaining insights into market demands and business strategies. This course provides a blend of practical sewing techniques and entrepreneurial knowledge, equipping you to confidently tackle common mending tasks and explore business opportunities.

Take your maths skills to the next level to help you with work or study opportunities. Adult maths teaches you practical numeracy skills for everyday life. This entry 3 functional skills maths course offers a practical way to learn maths as an adult. Functional skills maths courses aren’t like studying maths at school. You’ll learn maths in context. Develop maths skills to face real-life situations such as organising your personal budget or applying discounts when shopping. This entry 3 functional maths course is right for you if you want to enhance your maths skills to work or study. It can help you learn essential maths skills employers look for. Functional Skills qualifications are free if you don't already have a GCSE in English or Maths at grades A*-C, or 4-9. We'll check your level and any previous qualifications before you start. This ensures you are on the correct course. This course is funded by the West Midlands Combined Authority.

Designed for current and aspiring school support workers, this course focuses on practical maths skills that are directly applicable to the classroom. Over six sessions, learners will explore foundational maths concepts and apply them in real-world scenarios to enhance their ability to assist students. The curriculum covers essential topics, including basic operations, equivalencies between fractions, decimals, percentages, interpreting data, managing schedules, and using measurement skills. Activities such as creating timetables, planning classroom decorations, help participants contextualise maths in a school setting. Each session highlights practical applications, ensuring learners gain skills they can use to improve students' learning experiences in maths. Note: This introductory online course offers a foundation in practical numeracy skills for support workers in schools. It will familiarise learners with essential maths used in classroom support tasks, providing valuable preparation for those considering accredited maths qualifications. It’s also suitable for individuals currently in support roles in schools who want to refresh their foundational maths skills. This course is funded by West Midlands Combined Authority.

This introductory course is for anyone who wants to develop a basic knowledge of working with children up to the age of 5 in early years’ settings such as nurseries or pre-schools. You will understand the importance of communication and will gain confidence in applying skills and techniques that will engage children in their personal development. You will study activities that can stimulate children's growth and learning development in their early years. You will increase your confidence in caring for children in early years’ settings.
