"Step Into Work" is a comprehensive program designed to equip you with the essential skills needed for job hunting. This course covers writing effective cover letters, creating standout CVs, and mastering interview techniques. Through practical workshops and expert guidance, you'll learn how to present yourself confidently to potential employers and increase your chances of landing the job you desire. This course will help you examine your current skills and qualities and how they transfer to job related tasks. You’ll need access to the internet to take this ‘Step into Work’ program as our tutors use the WEA’s digital learning portal, Canvas, to send you important information and tasks.

We will explore the experience of mental distress from four very different viewpoints. Each has something to offer, none has the whole story. • The Biological aims to understand what is going on in the brain and the body. It underpins the medical model. • The Psychological perspectives seek to explain our mental states in terms of our thinking, feelings and habits. It’s all in the mind. • The Social perspective shifts the focus away from the individual. It is society that needs to change. • A Spiritual perspective goes beyond our limited sense of self to seek deeper meaning in our life journey.

This transformative 6-week course will help you understand yourself better and unlock your full potential. You'll explore self-esteem, learning how to boost your confidence and inner strength. By reflecting on your life experiences, you'll discover valuable lessons and growth opportunities to shape a brighter future. Additionally, you'll explore different personality traits to understand your strengths and weaknesses, embrace your individuality, and become more adaptable.

Set yourself up for success studying adult maths with this preparation course. This course will help you learn maths at your own pace. This course gives you extra study time to acquire the knowledge you’ll need for Get Ready For Entry Level 2 maths. This is an introductory maths course for people who are looking to progress to Get Ready for Entry Level 2 functional skills courses. It is a non-accredited adult maths course.

Do you want to start learning English? Come and join First Steps In ESOL. You can meet other people and improve your English skills. Classes are held in a friendly and supportive venue with good bus links from Burnley town centre. This course is for beginners. You can join it even if you have not completed First Steps in ESOL 1. After completing it, you could move onto getting ready for an Entry 1 course such as Get Ready for ESOL Entry 1. The course is running at Linkbridge Community Centre in Burnley. This is a friendly centre where there are other ESOL classes running. The centre is on the bus links from the town centre.

This 10-week course explores the life and times of Samuel Pepys, focusing on his diaries that provide an unparalleled view of 17th-century England. Through Pepys’ meticulous documentation, we will delve into the reign of Charles II, the devastation of the Great Plague and the Great Fire of London, and everyday life during the Restoration period. Including the numerous scandals at court and Pepys’s own behaviour! This course will offer insights into the personal, social, and political landscapes of the time, revealing how one man's observations can illuminate an entire era marked by dramatic events and profound changes.

This course will cover all forms of writing – fiction, including novels, short stories and plays, also poetry and autobiography and memoirs. The aim is to help develop and channel your writing ability, whether as a hobby or for publication with discussion of many aspects of writing, projects and readings of your work in a constructive and friendly setting. The emphasis is on individual development. For improvers and beginners, who are welcome. All that is needed is an int.erest in developing and enjoying your writing skills

Are you currently studying? On this Confidence to Learn course, you will develop study skills that will help direct you to a more focused way of studying. If you have not studied for a long time, or worried about how to start an assignment, or manage your time, this is the course for you. You will have the opportunity to personalise your approach to study and learning. Over the course you will find out what works best for you. General study skills are not for a specific subject, they are skills that cover all subject areas. The study skills you will develop at this level will help as you go through each topic on the course. To develop your study skills, you will practise a variety of tasks such as time management, active listening skills, note taking and many more. This will help you become more confident in the way you study. Study skills are not just for this course, they can be used in a variety of ways, for example solving problems in everyday life and managing your time successfully and learning to remain focused on a task.

Join our ESOL Conversation Café at Clare House, designed to enhance your English language skills in a friendly and supportive environment. This weekly session provides an excellent opportunity to practice speaking, improve your vocabulary, and build confidence in conversational English. By participating in these sessions, you'll be well-prepared to advance into other ESOL courses, further enhancing your language proficiency and opening up new educational and professional opportunities.
