Level of study
Entry Levels 1,2,3: If you have never studied this subject before and you’re not confident in your skills, Entry levels are a good starting point.
Level 1: Covers basic skills and knowledge needed for this subject
Level 2: Building on basic knowledge or experience. Similar to Grade 4/ C at GCSE or O level in England or Standards in Scotland.
Level 3: Learn about the topic in-depth and have a broad range of skills. Independent working Equivalent to an A level in England or Higher in Scotland.
Beginners: A perfect introduction if you have no experience and skills in this subject.
Improvers: The next step if you have basic skills or knowledge but want to progress them further.
Advanced: Build on the solid experience and skills you have in this subject, applying your skills and knowledge in a more complex way.

Course description
Coaching and mentoring courses expand your understanding of the role of mentor figures and the skills needed to be a good mentor. In this course, you will gain deeper knowledge of the benefits of mentoring. Consider various legal and ethical aspects, as well as your responsibility towards others as a mentor.
Develop key skills employers look for in this level 2 mentoring course. Team working and communication are key skills for CVs in support work.
This mentoring course takes around 60 hours to complete. Your tutor will set various tasks including discussions, presentations, and worksheets. You will create a portfolio of these tasks for assessment. Your WEA tutor will advise and guide you through the course
This course prepares you to achieve an occupational qualification at Level 2 or above. You can go on to study Level 3 Coaching and Mentoring courses. If you have doubts about the right progression for you, your tutor will be happy to advise and discuss your options with you.
To take this course you’ll need to have access to the internet. Communicate with your tutor and access learning materials through Canvas, the WEA’s digital learning portal.
