Course overview
Course description
This is a beginner's course for individuals who are thinking about working in a UK school or college setting. While the focus is on mainstream settings, the course will be useful if you are seeking work in special schools.
You will gain an understanding of barriers to learning and how to support children and young people to overcome them. We will look at how children learn through play and consider strategies to develop older pupils’ literacy and maths skills. You’ll also explore the impact of positive and challenging behaviours in the classroom and learn how to recognise safeguarding concerns. The final sessions focus on how to get your first school role. We will consider agency working, the interview process, enhancing your CV to reflect your career goals and how to complete detailed school application forms.
Upon successful completion, you will be ready to progress to a Level 2 Qualification in Support work in schools and colleges with WEA, leading to further opportunities in the education sector.
