Course overview

This course aims to prepare you for support work in Schools and Colleges. You'll gain an overview of the different kinds of education provisions, the needs of the children and / or young people, and be introduced to the importance of developing professional relationships.

Course description

This course will give you background information to support children and young people in schools and colleges and introduce you to some of the important considerations for support work, such as health and safety, safeguarding, child development and diversity.

By the end of the course I will be able to:

1. List at least three kinds of education provision in the UK for 5 – 18 year olds.

2. List three areas of child development.

3. Explain why adapting communication methods is necessary with different people in learning environments like school or college.

4. Identify three ways in which schools and colleges look after the safety of everyone on site.

5. Give an example of prejudice or discrimination a child or young person may experience and describe the effect it may have on them.
