Course overview

This course is structured to cover key aspects of study skills tailored to prepare learners for the Entry Level 3 and Level 1 Essential Digital Skills Qualifications. Topics will include: using Canvas (the WEA’s virtual learning platform), organising course files, online safety, digital note-taking, researching on the internet, online communication (email and messaging) and using different digital devices. You will learn through a wide variety of methods including interactive lectures, practical exercises, group work and discussions. You will also gain an understanding of what to expect from the Essential Digital Skills qualifications. This course is funded by the West Midlands Combined Authority https://www.wmca.org.uk/

Course description

The Study Skills for Essential Digital Skills course is designed to equip learners with the foundation tools and techniques necessary to excel in their learning journey, particularly as they transition onto the accredited Essential Digital Skills qualification at Entry Level 3 or Level 1.

The Essential Digital Skills Qualification will start in September 2024 at the Dolphin Women’s Centre and will focus on empowering learners to stay safe online, develop essential study strategies, time management skills and digital literacy. You will develop your digital communication skills which will include using email, messaging, and social media and learn how to make online transactions effectively and safely.

On completion of this course, you will be well placed to maximize your academic success in the digital age.

Learners will be assessed on their English and Digital skills to join these courses. Your English Level will need to be Entry 2 or higher to join the Study Skills course. The Study Skills course will give you opportunities to develop your digital skills. Following this course, we will assess your digital skills which will need to be Entry Level 2 or higher to progress to do the Essential Digital Skills qualification.

Most of our courses are government funded but if you don't qualify or need.
